Dr. Nicole Swiner – “Killing the Superwoman Syndrome for Military/Veterans Spouses”

As a primary care/family physician, and mental health expert, I see and treat mental health and work-life imbalance daily. I focus primarily on preventive health, disease and cancer screening, stress relief and the Superwoman Complex. My goals for this workshop with veterans and their families include:

* Identifying specific areas of stress for caregivers 

* Explain medical conditions that can be triggered by the stressors

* Defining what the Superwoman (and Superman) complex is and how it affects one’s mental and physical health

* Discussing realistic techniques that one can use at home to reduce stress related to when a loved one is away serving

* Discussing pharmacologic (pharmaceutical) and non-pharmaceutical treatments for caregivers and answering any other mental health questions from the participants.

Transitioning from the military to civilian life can seem like an uphill challenge. This session will give a comprehensive look at how to recognize the strength of your position and appreciate everyone on your team, what you need to know and how to maximize the potential of success.

The distractions in life continually challenge us all much like the complexity of a chess game. We will discuss approaches to reduce stress and strengthen the development of skills or behaviors. It is becoming increasingly apparent that the development of roles and responsibilities is also relevant.

 

 

 



Cassandra Bradford Wilson – “Power of Being A Certified Veteran Business Owner”

Veteran’s Trump us All. The Life Calling Vision Board Strategies workshop introduces how to use growth points to create a visual picture of your life. The vision board will reveal how balanced your life is and areas that may require focus.  Growth points help to balance areas of your life to enable you to set and achieve specific life goals.

You will learn: your personality type, the difference between a growth mindset vs. fixed mindset, and how to create your Life Calling Vision Board using the Life Calling Growth Points. Each attendee will receive: Life Calling Vision Board, Life Calling Journal and a Growth Mindset Bookmark.

Andrea Sawyer: “Proposal Writing”

This workshop participants will learn the components of a competitive proposal, a grantmaker’s process, and criteria for funding decisions. This includes learning how to gather the information needed to create a complete project or grant proposal, and how to identify “red flags” or flaring errors in proposals. Participants will also take a look at the most common tips from funders to proposal writers.

 

 

 

 


Erika Etienne –  
The Job Is Yours”

This workshop is for the proactive job seeker who is ready to confidently secure their next job opportunity.  Attendees of this presentation will learn 10 key steps to identifying the job they want and how it aligns to their skills, how to secure and maximize the interview, get the offer, claim their salary, and to be a high performer while on the job.

Participants will create a road map/action plan during the workshop that they can immediately implement. They will also receive a checklist to aid them in their job-hunting process.

 

 

 


Sherrell Moore-Tucker – “Navigating Life Transitions with Mindfulness”

In this workshop, you will learn about Life Transition and how can Yoga, mind and body connection can help you move forward in your life. Key topics include:


* How do you respond to a voluntary versus an involuntary transition

* Fun Facts about how the mind-body responds to transitions

* Mindfulness tools when facing difficult transitions:

Breathing techniques (group activity)

Meditation (3-5 min activity)

Cedrick Brown and Brenda Dorador: Military Transition Network

Stepping into a Successful Transition: This workshop is geared towards veterans, spouses, and recently separated military members who are approaching or are in the transition process. Attendees will learn how to build a detailed plan that will put their transition process into an action plan that will prove to be advantageous, fundamentally sound, and easily adaptable into their new life chapter. Topics will include the 5-Step Plan, the W.I.N. approach, and Maximizing Your Why Factor (Conveying your Transferable Skills).
